Eugene Weekly

My first assignment for Eugene Weekly was in the winter of 1999. I began writing about local and touring music on an every-other-week basis, alternating weeks with another writer. When he quit, I began writing every week, and was the sole entertainment writer for Eugene Weekly for a period of about two years. I went on to contribute book reviews, restaurant reviews, recipes, local news and more. Over the years I have contributed hundreds of articles to Eugene Weekly about every topic imaginable.

For 8 years I was solely responsible for gathering and editing recipes from local restaurants that ran in the Chow, the quarterly publication devoted to local food and dining. I regularly contributed to Chow as well as many special issues once my focus expanded beyond music. Eugene Weekly contracted out the production of the annual Holiday Gift Guide to me over the years of 2013 and 2014.

When I first started writing for the Weekly, believe it or not, email was still an optional workplace tool. I submitted my articles on floppy disk and all important info was printed out for me. I didn’t save those articles and haven’t compiled links to them yet. To read some, visit the Eugene Weekly website and enter my name, Vanessa Salvia, in the search bar. You’ll get to sift through about 100 pages of results all written by me.
